What personal data we collect and why

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, the site collects the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and the browser user agent string to help detect spam.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture will be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, those images will be publicly visible in your comments. By uploading your images, you give Garden Fairy Farm permission to include your image in future posts on this website, in Garden Fairy Farm social media posts, and/or in the Garden Fairy Farm newsletter.

Any use of your images will be in relation to your original comment (e.g. if you sent an image as part of a question, it may be featured in a post that responds to your question). Your images will not be used for marketing purposes or published in print form without your permission. You retain copyright to any posted images (assuming you were the original copyright owner).

You should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again the next time you leave a comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

Our website collects only the data necessary for the functionality of the site. We will never sell your data for any purpose other than your ability to use the website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Facebook Pixel

This site uses Facebook pixel. Facebook may use cookies, web beacons, and other storage technologies to collect or receive information from this website and elsewhere on the internet to provide measurement services and target ads. You can view Facebook’s data policy here.

What rights you have over your data

You can request the removal of your comments and for us to erase the personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You can learn more and opt out of the collection and use of information for ad targeting across the web at the Digital Advertising Alliance opt out page and Your Online Choices (Europe).
